About the Health Buddy System from Bosch

The Health Buddy System serves as the interface between patients at home and care providers, facilitating communication of historical patient data of and self-management support for patients with chronic conditions. The System includes telemedical technologies, clinical information databases, Internet-enabled decision support tools, health management programs and content development tools. Through increased communication, behavior modification, and prevention, the Health Buddy System improves the quality of patient care. The System is protected by 57 issued US patents.

Originally developed in California by Health Hero Network, the Health Buddy System was acquired by the Bosch Group in December 2007. The Bosch Group is a leading global supplier of technology and services with worldwide sales of 45.1 billion euros (approximately $59.7 billion) in fiscal 2008. The Bosch Group comprises Robert Bosch GmbH and its roughly 300 subsidiary and regional companies in over 60 countries. Robert Bosch established the company in Stuttgart, Germany in 1886 as a “Workshop for Precision Mechanics and Electrical Engineering.”

In North America, the Bosch Group employs approximately 25,000 associates in more than 80 locations throughout the U.S., Canada and Mexico.

Biographies of our executive team
Derek Newell, Bosch Healthcare Executive

Mr. Newell brings more than 18 years of health care and technology experience to Bosch with expertise in technology, sales, marketing, and finance. Prior to joining Bosch, Newell was Chief Executive Officer of Health Hero Network which was acquired by Bosch in December 2007. Prior to joining Health Hero Network, Newell was the Chief Marketing Officer and Senior Vice President of Client Relationships for LifeMasters Supported Self Care, Inc., a leading disease-management company, where he was responsible for all sales, marketing and client relationships. During his tenure at LifeMasters, Newell led the company’s growth by over 10 fold and helped to establish LifeMasters as one of the top disease management companies in the US. While at LifeMasters Newell also served as the Vice President of Product Development and Outcomes Research where he led the development of the technological and service architecture to deliver LifeMasters disease management services. He holds a Masters in Business Administration and a Masters in Public Health, both from the University of California at Berkeley.

Klaus Bachmann, Finance and Controlling

Mr. Bachmann is responsible for Finance, Logistics and Purchasing at Robert Bosch Healthcare, formerly known as Health Hero Network. Previously, Mr. Bachmann held several management positions within Robert Bosch including managing the Controlling team for Robert Bosch GmbH Power Tools in Stuttgart, working in Sales Controlling, Logistics and on a Corporate strategy project. He holds a degree in Business administration from University Luigi Bocconi (Milan) and spent one semester at Yonsei University (Seoul).

Geoffrey Clapp, Software Development

Mr. Clapp is responsible for driving the design and development of the award-winning Health Buddy system. His visionary technical direction and extensive expertise creating new products and services have positioned Robert Bosch Healthcare, formerly known as Health Hero Network, as a leader in the telehealth industry. Mr Clapp has served in several management positions, with business responsibilities in engineering, sales, and operations. Mr. Clapp joined Robert Bosch Healthcare, formerly known as Health Hero Network, from Kodak Imagination Works, where he was responsible for new product development and revenue opportunities for Kodak partners such as Disney, Universal Studios, and Sega/Gameworks. Previously Mr. Clapp had held leadership positions at Apple Computer and RWD Technologies, where he designed and developed technology systems for several Fortune 500 companies. Mr. Clapp holds degrees in Cognitive Psychology and Computer Science from Goucher College in Baltimore, Maryland.

Karen Flores, Client Relations

Dr. Flores has over 24 years of operations, business management, and organizational development experience in the health care field. She is responsible for overall account management and the development of new business and customer relationships for Robert Bosch Healthcare, formerly known as Health Hero Network. Prior to joining the company, Dr. Flores most recently provided health care consulting services to a diverse national client base as President of Health Management Group, Inc. She previously served as President of Advanced Infusion Systems, taking the company from start-up mode into a leading role in the California home infusion industry and through to acquisition by Hillhaven (NYSE-HIL), a Fortune 500 company. Dr. Flores has served on the Board of Directors of the American Society of Health System Pharmacists and is currently a Board of Directors member for the National Home Infusion Association. She has a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of the Pacific School of Pharmacy. Dr. Flores joined the company in September 2005.

Michael Howells, Hardware Development

Mr. Howells brings over 20 years of experience in software, semiconductors, embedded systems and IT systems management to Robert Bosch Healthcare, formerly known as Health Hero Network. He is responsible for the company's software and hardware development and IT/Datacenter operations. Prior to joining the company Mr. Howells co-founded App2App, an embedded systems organization targeting biometric access control. During his 10-year career at LogicVision (Nasdaq: LGVN), he held the role of VP Engineering and, for a time, was Acting VP Marketing. Mr. Howells has also held senior positions in semiconductor engineering and marketing at Mitsubishi Electronics. He holds a BS and MS degree in Electrical Engineering from McGill University in Montreal, Canada. Mr. Howells joined the company in September 2005.

Sandeep Jaggi, Intellectual Property & General Counsel

Mr. Jaggi brings over 10 years of legal experience and an additional 10 years of business and engineering experience to Robert Bosch Healthcare, formerly known as Health Hero Network. Prior to joining the company Mr. Jaggi held a variety of senior level positions at LSI Logic Corporation (NYSE: LSI) including Vice President, Chief IP Counsel, Assistant Corporate Secretary and Assistant General Counsel. He was responsible for all aspects of IP protection, valuation, acquisition, enforcement, litigation and licensing. Prior to obtaining his law degree he was President and Chief Executive Officer of ETS Inc., which commercialized space based-technologies for NASA and US Navy. He also held the positions of Project Leader, Principal Engineer and Senior Scientist for Lockheed at NASA’s Johnson Space Center. Mr. Jaggi holds a JD degree specializing in Intellectual Property Law from Santa Clara University. He also holds a PhD and MS in Electrical Engineering from Tulane University and BS in Electrical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology in New Delhi, India. He joined the company in January 2006.

Dan Marinsik, Quality and Regulatory Affairs

Mr. Dan Marinsik brings more than 20 years of regulatory, quality, and clinical experience managing clinical studies, submitting domestic and international regulatory submissions, implementing quality system and leading compliance audits. He has regulatory expertise for Class I, II, and III medical devices. Mr. Marinsik has implemented, registered, and managed quality systems for global medical device corporations in the United States, Europe, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East.  Prior to joining Robert Bosch Healthcare, formerly known as Health Hero Network, Marinsik was Senior Director of Regulatory, Clinical and Quality at Reliant Technologies, a leading aesthetic laser company. Prior to this he held positions as Vice President and Senior Director for both small and larger medical device manufacturers including Philips Health Care, Nuclear Medicine and Sanmina-SCI. He holds a Bachelors of Science in Geology from California State University Fresno. Mr. Marinsik joined the company in May 2008.

Suneel Ratan, Marketing and Reimbursement

Mr. Ratan has 22 years of experience as a journalist and product- and business-development executive. He is responsible for North American marketing and government relations. Mr. Ratan started his career as a Washington-based economics correspondent for TIME and FORTUNE magazines, both part of Time Warner (NYSE:TWX). His coverage included the growing impact of entitlement programs such as Medicare and Social Security on the federal budget. He went on to hold executive positions in the online efforts of Electronic Arts (Nasdaq:ERTS) and Channel One, the national in-school news network that is a unit of Primedia (NYSE:PRM). He holds a Master of Public Policy from Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government and a BA degree in Political Science from Columbia University. Mr. Ratan joined the company, Robert Bosch Healthcare, formerly known as Health Hero Network, in December 2003.

M. Ileana Welte, Sales

M. Ileana Welte, RN, BSN, is a health-care professional with over 25 years of executive leadership in sales and marketing of health care services and technology and software. She most recently has served as an Executive Sales and Business Development consultant to national organizations whose primary mission is deployment of services and technologies for chronically ill/elderly populations. Ms. Welte until 2007 led the sales and marketing efforts of CareGuide, a national provider of care-management services. She spearheaded the clinical development and sales of URAC accredited care management programs with a focus on providing quality health care through application of evidence-based medicine and innovative technologies. Before joining CareGuide, Ms. Welte served as Vice President of Business Development for Interval Research, Electric Planet, a Paul Allen company, and Vice President of Sales for Maxis, Inc., a leader in PC game software, where she designed and implemented strategic partnership programs, coordinated the award-winning launch of product lines, and participated in a highly successful IPO as an executive team member. Ms. Welte holds a B.S.N. degree and has post graduate education in Geriatric Care Management.
